- La infección articular periprotésica con cultivo negativo (PJI) es una condición difícil de tratar. Se desconoce el manejo más apropiado de la PJI con cultivo negativo, y existe una inmensa variabilidad en el resultado del tratamiento de esta afección. El propósito de este estudio fue dilucidar las características, los resultados y los factores de riesgo para el fracaso del tratamiento de la PJI con cultivo negativo.
- El presente estudio demuestra que el PJI con cultivo negativo es un hallazgo relativamente frecuente con tasas inaceptables de fracaso del tratamiento. Se debe hacer todo lo posible para aislar el organismo infectante antes de la intervención quirúrgica, incluida la extensión del período de incubación de los cultivos, la retención de antibióticos antes de obtener muestras de cultivo y posiblemente el uso de técnicas moleculares recientemente introducidas.
